Around the world at
Toluca Lake
Hi Toluca Lake families!
It’s time for Toluca Lake Elementary's
4th Annual Around the World At Toluca Cultural fair
and this time…it’s virtual!
For those of you that are new to Toluca, this is is an opportunity to share your family’s cultural heritage, learn new things about your friends, and celebrate our wonderful Toluca community.
Next week we’ll be kicking off our virtual fair. We’ll focus on a different aspect of culture each day. Here’s the schedule:
Tuesday, May 26th: Costumes and Country (history and traditions)
Wednesday, May 27th: Folk Stories and Jokes
Thursday, May 28th: Traditional Song and Dance
Friday, May 29th: Traditional Foods, Drinks, and Recipes
For that to happen, this week we’re asking you to work with your families to create and find things from your culture to digitally share with the rest of us.
Here’s how to do that:
1. Create or gather videos, documents (recipes, stories, etc.),
and pictures of the things you want to share.
For example, if you did a Family Table or a Performance last year we’d love you to send us your pictures and any video you may have taken. Or if you’re new you might take a pic of you in traditional clothing, make a cooking video of a favorite cultural recipe, or send us a family friendly joke.
2. Click on this form.
3. Fill out the info and upload your attachments.
4. Submit the form.
It would be especially helpful if you sent in your submissions
on or before this Sunday, May 24th.
We’ll post your content to our special “Around the World at Toluca 2020” website which will be shared with all Toluca families. We’ll also feature what you share on the appropriate days next week. So if you sent us a recipe or a cooking video, we’d include it in the things we highlight on Friday, the 29th.
This is a great way for us to interact as a community, even if we can’t do it in person. We’ve had awesome participation at our in-person event; we’re hoping to hear from lots of you with this year’s digital event.
If you have any questions you can reach out to Jen LaSalle and Rowe Keil.
