We have 2 parents that might have a potential sponsor. A parent works at Cedars Sinai. Another parent, her dad owns a plumbing business. Information was exchange with Beth. V) EVENTS SEPTEMBER Back To School Night Members were informed of the Bake Sale the PTA is having during back to school night. A signup sheet for volunteers was passed during the meeting. They were encouraged signup to help during the bake sale or donate a baked item. Free Coffee Bar Parents were also informed of the FREE coffee bar being hosted by the PTA graciously donated by the Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. OCTOBER Halloween Parents were asked for suggestions for the Halloween fundraiser. Ideas from Parents: · Pizza and drinks sale after the parade was suggested. · Debbie Armes suggested a sale of Halloween tote bags and glow sticks. We could get these items from Oriental Trading. · Crystal Wright suggested a fall theme sale, bobbing for apples, hay and an apple cider press. · Face painting · Lucy (parent center Rep) mentioned that the GTLNC is doing a bike event on Oct. 30th through TL for Halloween. They will take the bikers to the scariest houses. Parents thought this could be an opportunity to sell something at the event. Or the PTA could have presence by wearing the TL t-shirt? Lucy also mentioned that the GTLNC is donating $1,200 for the copy machines and $1,800 for the Accelerated Reader Program for the school. NOVEMBER/DECEMBER Thanksgiving/Xmas Parents were asked for suggestions for a Thanksgiving/xmas fundraiser. We could have a holiday boutique? Suggestions from parents: · Hold a toy drive at during Christmas · Hold a food drive w/BTAC (Burbank Temporary Aid Center). Instead of Boutique. St. Charles has a food bank. It was suggested to split it by grade level so each grade collects a different food item. 2012 EVENTS Spring Carnival Parents were presented with the Spring carnival idea. Emphasis was made that we NEED their support from them in order accomplish it. We need a strong membership! Suggestions from parents: · Parents thought the idea of a carnival was great. This is better than a regular fundraiser. This way ALL kids can participate. · Do a school wide & community. Garden Party Parents were informed that this is another event that the PTA will be working on with the school. The PTA will host the lunch during the school clean up day. Last years’ event was a success and the PTA ran out of food. This year will be better prepared. Cinco De Mayo Parents were presented with the idea of a nacho and drink sale after the school Cinco de Mayo event. Suggestions from parents: · Be better organized. Last year’s sale sold out quickly and a lot of kids did not get to purchase nachos. VI) MISC. Parents were asked to share their ideas as to what they would like the PTA to do. Suggestions from parents: · They would like the PTA to better reach out to ALL parents. Concerns were brought that some parents feel “left out”. They will like the PTA to be more friendly and find away to blend cultures. · Have a “muffins for mom” day · Have “donuts for dad” day · Have “popcorn for kids” day · Movie night/drive in at the playground. This could be a spring or fall event. A parent has a projector and she made it available to the PTA. · Have more fitness oriented events. · Have a walkathon · Fitness logs – Friends/family could sponsor child. We could possibly have a sponsor for a fitness oriented event. A parent works for Cedar Sinai. Beth will keep in touch with him. Translations Parents were asked if anyone could volunteer to do Spanish translations for the PTA materials we send out. · Xiomara Cubias and Tanya Carmona have graciously volunteered to do translations.
